Art Is FUN!
art-is-fun.com is a great place to be involved in art, either painting or drawing. I was drawn to the site through Google. It's a great place if you're well versed or a newbie in your medium or want to learn a new medium. Very friendly. I sought it out because I was looking for a source for a colored pencil beginner because I am one and I have pencils on order and realized I wouldn't know what to do with them after I sharpened them. So, in about a week my pencils will arrive and I will, by that time, have a working knowledge of the basics.
I am a decorative painter by trade and if you would like more info on that, go here, decorativepainters.org, and click the "About SDP" (Society of Decorative Painters) tab to get a general idea of what we are about. I've been a member since 1985 and have enjoyed participating in my local chapter very much.
In fact, SDP has an annual convention in the midwest each year where lots of classes are taught in oils, watercolor, acrylic colored pencil and mixed media. This happens in mid-May and a good time is had by all. There is a trade show with all manner of surfaces (like wooden trays, shirts, papers for watercolor and pencil, and a host of things you just have to have to be able to complete your project!) pens, pencils, brushes, books and stuff I haven't even thought of.
If I go in 2013 I know I'm going to fedex my painting supplies ahead of time because I'm sure something that I'm taking will be classified as dangerous. And the same coming home, I'm sending my class projects along with my supplies back home.
